Summary

Sacrococcygeal teratomas are rare in adult patients, often presenting asymptomatically. This case highlights the importance of early surgical intervention for large presacral masses to prevent complications and potential malignancy.

Background:

Sacrococcygeal teratomas (SCTs) are neoplasms typically diagnosed in infants.
Adult SCTs are uncommon and frequently present with delayed diagnosis due to asymptomatic nature.

Observation:

A 20-year-old female presented with a long-standing sacral swelling.
Imaging demonstrated a large, mixed solid-cystic presacral mass.
The mass caused significant displacement of adjacent pelvic organs.

Findings:

The sacrococcygeal teratoma was surgically excised.
Resection included the adjacent rectal wall due to tumor involvement.
Histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of teratoma.

Implications:

Early detection and surgical management of adult SCTs are crucial.
Prompt intervention can prevent complications like malignant transformation.
Optimal surgical outcomes depend on timely and complete tumor resection.
